I’m an attorney, U.S. Army reserve officer, certified Army Master Resilience Trainer, and high-performance coach for ambitious attorneys who refuse to let stress and overwhelm dictate their lives.
When I started my legal career in Washington, DC, I was ready to take on the world. But the long hours, high demands, and relentless pressure slowly drained my focus, energy, and sense of control.
I was constantly putting out fires—grinding through cases, handling difficult conversations, meeting tight deadlines—but at the end of the day, I had nothing left for myself. My mind was always racing, my body was running on fumes, and my personal life? It barely existed.
There was no time for family. No space for friends. No energy for second passions.
The stress wasn’t just exhausting—it was suffocating. And worst of all, I realized I wasn’t actually in control of my career. My schedule dictated my life. My clients’ needs took priority over my own. The pressure to perform left me with nothing but anxiety and burnout.
I knew something had to change.
So I did what I do best—I went all in on figuring it out. I studied neuroscience, psychology, and peak performance. I became a certified resilience trainer, helping soldiers, leaders, and attorneys develop the mental strength to operate under pressure. I experimented with every strategy possible—testing them not just in my legal career but in ultra running, combat sports, and leadership roles.
And that’s how True Progress Lab was born.

I’m Carlos, Army reserve officer, Army resilience trainer, and attorney having trained leaders and soldiers on stress management, stress adaptability, and optimizing performance.
It all started in 2014 when I began my legal career in the Nation’s Capital, a highly competitive legal arena and playground for attorneys. But behind the suits and ambition was constant overwork, stress, and running out of time.
Enough was enough and I decided to change my lifestyle and inner chaos I felt.
I delved into neuroscience, philosophy, and psychology, became an Army resilience trainer, and through lots of personal experimentation I developed a simple system that helped me and others win back their sense of inner control and time.

Both myself (Carlos) and Stefanie (co-founder) deliver the live coaching sessions and accountability check-in calls. Who coaches which session is dependent on available scheduling and dates and times.
